Chemical Peels Obagi Blue Peel

Removing Wrinkles and Repairing Sun Damage

Chemical skin peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face, neck, chest, back and hands to smooth texture, reduce scarring, even out pigmentation and remove acne blemishes and pre-cancerous growths. Special formula chemical peels can even be used on the arms and legs.

Peel formulas and strengths range from mild to strong, and are tailored to each patient. All chemical peels work by causing skin cell exfoliation. The depth of this exfoliation is determined by the peel solutions used and the length of time the solutions are left on the skin

Types of Peels

Superficial Peels for Skin roughness, blotchiness and light sun damage

Glycolic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy and Jessner peels affect the superficial layer of your skin and are well tolerated - these procedures are the true 'lunchtime' peels. They remove thinner abnormalities on the skin surface, reduce pigmentation and surface dryness, leaving the skin brighter and smoother.

Superficial peels require no 'downtime' but do require a series of small peels over time, usually spread 2-4 weeks apart. These peels, most often collectively referred to as glycolic peels work by "ungluing" the damaged skin cells and allowing them to easily slough off.

Beta Peels for acne-prone skin, oiliness and poor texture

Beta Hydroxy Peels (also referred to as Salicylic Peels) are used for treating your skin when you are prone to have acne, oily or rough-textured skin with enlarged pores. Beta Hydroxy acid can penetrate the pores and help dissolve the oil in clogged pores.

Salicylic Acid Peels are effective in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improving your overall facial texture because of the ability to exfoliate both the skin surface and within pores.

Medium Peels for moderate to more severe sun damage, wrinkles and pigmentation

The Obagi Blue Peel is an adjustable peel, well-known and very effective for smoothing your skin from sun-caused roughness and uneven brown pigment.
With a buffered TCA base, the Obagi Blue Peel "self-times" its action, so there is little risk of over-exfoliation. The Blue Peel is applied in layers making it an extremely adjustable chemical peel. The characteristic blue tint assures even coverage and even exfoliation. More about Obagi Blue Peel.

Medium Chemical Peel

TCA (Trichloro Acetic Acid) produces moderate to deeper peel results after only one treatment but require 7-10 days of healing time.

Phenol Peels are the deepest of the chemical peels available. Because of the risks associated with these peels (which require anesthesia) Phenol Peels are considered surgical procedures and are not performed at Premiere Dermatology.

Can chemical peels be used off the face?

Many patients choose to treat multiple areas at the same time. By treating your hands, arms, back and chest the same as you do your face, you'll look younger on all the exposed areas. Your face is not the only skin surface that suffers the effects of aging and sun exposure.

Dr. Cobos has consistent success with special peels for the arms and chest, areas which normally are more difficult to improve. For those who prefer alternative rejuvenation procedures, Fraxel and SmoothPeel offer laser-based solutions.

Treatment combinations may include the use of IPL Fotofacial (Intense Pulsed Light) and Vbeam vascular laser small broken vessels or brown patches that chemical peels can't resolve.

Are chemical peels safe for darker skin types like Asian and Latin skin?

you have a darker skin type or are of Asian, Latin American or Middle Eastern descent, you can definitely have an increased risk of hyperpigmentation. Making sure you carefully select your treatment provider is most important. Dr. Cobos is a board certified dermatologist and has over 18 years experience in safely treating patients of every ethnic background and skin type, achieving excellent results for thousands of happy patients.

Medical chemical peels must be correctly chosen for your skin type and condition no matter what your ethnic background and should be administered in a physician's office. Exact combinations and formulations will provide safe and long lasting results.

Post Peel Protection - Required!

No matter what chemical peel you choose, it is vital that you follow strict adherence to a post treatment program including cleansers, toners and sun protection to maintain your results and prevent unwanted pigment changes. Sunscreen, sun block, hats and sun protective clothing will guard against re-bound pigmentation and unintended sun damage.
