April - July, 2008 - Clinical Study Opportunity
“I am very flattered to have been asked to collaborate with Reliant Technologies in using both the Fraxel re:store and Fraxel re:pair systems for my Transform-a-Life program patients. I am actively looking for patients with either burn scars or actinic keratosis (precancerous growths) that I can treat with these new state of the art systems under this program.” Renee Cobos MD,FAAD ( Study opportunity April-July 2008) |

About Fraxel
Re:pair CO2 Laser
The Fraxel Laser
systems use
a patented
scanning
technology
to deliver
laser pulses
in tiny dots
on the skin
in a
fractional
pattern.
These
microscopic
laser beams
penetrate
more deeply into
the skin than traditional CO2 lasers
and vaporize
tiny columns
of tissue while
leaving
adjacent
areas
untreated
next to each
treated
column.
These
untreated
areas spur
faster
healing and
maintain
skin
integrity. This is
the reason
the healing
is fast and
far more
comfortable
than full
surface CO2
laser
procedures.
CO2
Laser
History
- The CO2 laser came into use over a decade ago and became THE laser for serious skin resurfacing. However, despite the often incredible levels of skin improvement, the treatment itself and the long healing time were a roadblock to the vast majority of people and the CO2 laser quickly lost its desirability. Nothing has approached the effects of CO2 laser until the introduction of the Fraxel re:pair. And no other type of laser on the market today can match the tightening abilities created by the fractional penetration depths of the Re:pair.
|

"Patients are often wary of CO lasers and surgical procedures because the post-treatment healing process can last as long as two weeks and disrupt their quality of life. Study results indicate that by combining fractional and ablative technologies, this treatment may
be a new
treatment
paradigm in
the skin
resurfacing
arena,
providing
dramatic
results that
patients and
physicians
want without
significant
risks."

Re:pair CO2 Treatment Procedure is done in the office!
Upon arrival
at the
office you
will receive
pre-treatment
medication
to lessen
discomfort
and
alleviate
anxiety.
Many
patients
have some
level of
laser-anxiety
and we've
found that
offering
some oral
medication
helps
greatly. You
will have
numbing gel
applied to
the area that will
be treated
and then
wait for
about 45 minutes. Our
medical
staff will
review your
procedure,
what to
expect and
the
aftercare
that you
will
perform. You will need a driver to take you home following the procedure as the medication that you will be given may make you drowsy.
When
treatment
begins you
may feel
some sharp
heat
sensation as
the laser
ablates the skin
tissue. CO2
treatments
are not
painless, so
you should
expect some
discomfort.
If your
eyelids
and/or the
wrinkles
around your
eyes are
being
treated,
protective
shields will
be placed
under your
eyelids for
the few
moments that
area is
treated. A
full face
and neck
procedure
takes about
20 minutes.

Post Procedure Expectations
Following the Fraxel a clear protective ointment will be placed on your skin. You will reapply this ointment several times a day after cleansing with specially prepared gauze pads. You will not need to apply any dressing or bandages.
You will return to see Dr. Cobos the day following treatment, again on day 3 and again on day 7. Usually by day 3 you can begin using makeup. Your skin will stay reddened for 10 to 14 days with some possible pinkness for another week or possibly longer.
Swelling is expected. Dr. Cobos may suggest that you have an injection on the day of the procedure to lessen this response. You will have some light fluid seepage along with some minimal pinpoint bleeding the first day or two. The gauze soaks and ointment will be used to keep your skin clean and protected while it goes through initial healing.
|
|
|
Final skin
response is
seen at
around
3 months, as
during this
time your
skin is
producing
additional
new
collagen.
You will
experience
tighter,
smoother
skin with
fewer
wrinkles,
softer
texture and
better
color.

Fraxel for Acne Scars
Acne Scars are often very difficult to improve
to the point
that they
become
invisible,
but visual
improvement
can be
attained. Dr. Cobos
is engaged
in a study
to determine
the level of
effectiveness
of the
Fraxel Re:pair in
minimizing
acne scars. To get the very best results, Dr. Cobos may utilize a variety of lasers and treatments, including Vbeam laser for redness, Smoothbeam laser for collagen formation, subcision to release the scar anchor and/or temporary fillers such as Juvederm or Cosmoderm which instantly make dramatic visual changes in your appearance. If you are interested in participating in this study, please call our office at 714-870-7546
