Restylane

Dermal Filler for Lip Augmentation and Wrinkles

Restylane® is a safe and natural hyaluronic acid wrinkle corrector that safely fills wrinkles and facial folds of varying depths. Hyaluronic acid (a natural and very important part of skin structure), is the leading dermal filler on the market today.

Restylane requires no pre-testing and is easily used for a wide variety of corrections from thinning lips to moderate-depth facial lines and folds. Restylane replaces the natural hyaluronic acid that diminishes with age - or augments areas where you may have always wanted a little more fullness such as the lips or cheeks.

Your Restylane injections are long-lasting, soft and totally natural in both feel and appearance.

Dr. Cobos uses Restylane for the following:

  • the area between the eyebrows
  • the nasolabial folds
  • cheek area
  • the area around the mouth ("smoker's" lines)
  • lip border definition (vermillion border)
  • lip corner uplift
  • fuller lips (lip enhancement)
  • jowl area

Hyaluronic acid is a critical component of youthful-looking skin. Young skin is smooth and elastic because it contains a large amount of hyaluronic acid. Once hyaluronic acid is lost, due to age and various environmental factors, your skin is less pliable, tends to sag and wrinkles form. Aging and the consequential loss of hyaluronic acid also results in thinner lips and flatter cheeks.

Replacing lost Hyaluronic Acid

Technology has made it possible to recreate hyaluronic acid in a lab and stabilize it to make it long-lasting. The technology used to create Restylane gel is known as NASHA - Non Animal derived Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid - and it enables physicians to instantly 'add back' lost hyaluronic acid with a quick and simple injection.

How does Restylane® work?

Restylane Results Demo

When Restylane® is injected directly into areas where the body's support structures have been weakened, depressions (wrinkles, lines and folds) can be raised to the level of surrounding skin. This smoothes and minimizes facial lines and most types of scars. In addition, skin texture is improved and has a softer and more even tone.

How is a Restylane® procedure performed?

Restylane® is injected directly into your skin in tiny amounts by an ultra fine needle. The procedure is simple and quick, and results are practically instantaneous. A "lip block" may be used before the Restylane treatment to optimize your comfort during the short procedure if your treatment is in areas such as the lips or around the mouth. Numbing cream is used for other facial areas to minimize discomfort.

A Restylane treatment will actually fill the depressions in you skin and smooth out the skin's surface, resulting in the appearance of a more youthful complexion.

Can I use Restylane with Botox?

Yes, and in many cases Dr. Cobos recommends this wrinkle fighting technique. By preventing extreme muscle movement, the Botox helps the Restylane last longer. It's a synergistic effect that seems to prolong the positive effects of both. Restylane can also be used alongside other fillers such as Radiesse for deep folds and Cosmoderm for superficial wrinkles.

"The combination of Restylane and Botox has made me a very happy woman. This is something I will definitely continue using."
D. Mason

How long will the results of a Restylane® treatment last?

Restylane® effects last between six and nine months. Some injection locations maintain the correction longer than others.

Will Restylane work for me if I have facial hollows?

Restylane is an excellent wrinkle filler and lip volumizer, but like any filler, it has limitations. If you are experiencing the hollowness in your face that comes with fat loss, a natural result of aging for many women and men, Dr. Cobos may recommend the re-volumizer Sculptra.

Sculptra is a collagen-promoting micro-particle implant that is injected deep in your skin. Results are not immediate as it takes a number of months for your own natural collagen to gradually restore your skin to fullness.

Pre-Treatment Suggestions

Prior to a Restylane® treatment, you should avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication or vitamin E supplements unless prescribed by your primary care physician. If in doubt, please check with your primary physician before stopping any medications.
