Smoothbeam Skin Laser

Acne Scar Reduction and Fine Wrinkle Improvement

Smoothbeam is an advanced multi-effect laser treatment for acne scarring, active acne and wrinkle reduction. Smoothbeam stimulates your body's natural collagen-building process and in doing so, helps "fill-in" scars and wrinkles. The direct target heating of acne-causing sebaceous glands diminishes any active acne.

How SmoothBeam Improves Acne Scars

Smoothbeam is a non-invasive laser. Non-invasive (non-ablative) lasers do not burn, cut or remove the skin surface. Instead, their action occurs underneath the outer layers of the skin. Because the laser works at a deep level, there is no raw or peeling skin and the treatment discomfort is minimal. By stimulating the collagen production in the dermis with the laser's thermal beam, acne scars are gradually filled in by your body's own collagen.

A typical combination laser treatment for acne scars is Smoothbeam and VBeam - Smoothbeam for lifting the depression of the acne scar and Vbeam for removing residual redness that can last many months and call attention to where acne "used" to be.

If you require more aggressive treatment for your acne scars, Dr. Cobos offers Fraxel Laser. Fraxel works by skin resurfacing, leveling the skin surrounding the scar to reduce the comparative depth of the scar. As with any laser treatment, some new collagen formation adds to the improvement.

Cool on the Surface and "Hot at Work" Underneath

The Smoothbeam laser protects the surface layers of the skin during treatment with a built-in cooling system called DCD (Dynamic Cooling Device). The area of your skin to be treated is first deep cooled with a short blast of cryogen spray which protects the epidermis. This is instantly followed by the laser beam which targets the collagen making dermis layer.

While the heat reaches deeply to reprogram the collagen-building process, the surface of your skin stays cool and unaffected. Multiple treatments are necessary to stimulate the collagen and minimize the acne scars.

How Smoothbeam Reduces Active Acne

The sebaceous glands are the food source for acne. When the Smoothbeam Laser is used on your skin, the heat accumula tion causes a thermal injury to the sebaceous glands. This injury causes a shrinking of the gland, reducing and limiting the output of sebum production and a corresponding reduction in your acne activity.

Dr. Cobos may incorporate a variety of procedures including the Smoothbeam Laser coupled with prescribed medications to control your acne. Successful patients are those who follow the recommended course of treatment.

Your acne may be at a level that more serious intervention is required. In this case, Photodynamic Therapy could be a viable treatment choice. Mild acne is often quickly and easily controlled with simple topical medications and Blue Light Therapy.

If you have acne outbreaks that are not controlled with over-the-counter solutions, seeing a dermatologist is the best way to manage the disease and prevent acne scars.

How Smoothbeam Diminishes Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Just as Smoothbeam causes a rebuilding of collagen in acne scars, the same effect occurs in fine wrinkles. Since wrinkles are formed when there is collagen loss, the effect of new collagen formation fills in wrinkles around the eyes and causes an over-all collagen regeneration to the entire face. Results? Plumper, firmer skin with fewer wrinkles, improved skin tone and smaller pore size.

Smoothbeam treatments take from 10 to 30 minutes. Most patients do not need topical numbing creams. Wrinkle improvement is evident after multiple treatment sessions.
